생열귀나무는 한국, 중국, 일본 등 동아시아에 자생하는 낙엽 활엽수로, 학명은 Exochorda serratifolia입니다. 봄철 4~5월에 순백색 꽃이 나무 전체를 덮을 정도로 풍성하게 피며, 관상 가치가 높아 정원수로 인기가 많습니다. 척박한 토양에서도 잘 자라고 병해충에도 강한 편이라 관리가 용이합니다. 이름처럼 '생열'의 의미를 지닌 만큼 강한 생명력을 상징하며, 최근에는 도시 녹화용 수종으로도 각광받고 있습니다.
